The Throat Chakra covers the area of the external and internal throat and neck
as well as the mouth, teeth, and jaw.
It is often blocked with suppressed feelings, revealing unspoken emotions and unexpressed ideas.
When the Throat Chakra is blocked, it prevents energy from rising to the upper centers. Clearing this center requires a deep commitment to the truth, as well as living from integrity. When it is healed, strength flourishes and directs the life force toward creativity and self-expression.
The qualities expressed by the Throat Chakra are creativity, willpower, the truth, communication, and personal integrity. This center governs the thyroid and controls our ability to communicate our thoughts, feelings, and ideas clearly. When the Throat Chakra is functioning optimally, people will take stands for what they believe in. They are seldom dependent on others to give them permission to express their feelings.
This chakra develops later in life when a person has maturity to know what really matters. Clearing out family suppression and unexpressed emotions takes many years of inner work. This chakra holds memory and energy of all that went unexpressed. It is deeply affected by substance abuse, gossip, lying, and lack of personal integrity.
The Throat Chakra gives expression to our emotions in word and sound. We purr when we are deeply happy, sigh when we are sad, grunt when we are angry, and close our throats down when we are afraid to say what is in our mind. It is the channel for communication and creativity. It is through the throat that we sing our joy, say our prayers for peace, or scream our pain away. Knowing that we have the right to communicate our feelings openly is essential for our life development.
The Throat Chakra is controlled by the mind. When we feel comfortable in expressing ourselves, the Throat Chakra is capable of expressing our truth eloquently and with grace. It is in the Throat Chakra that we tune our awareness into the higher mind, which whispers the truth to us through our inner ear. Developing a quiet mind allows us to hear the voice of spirit.
The fear of expressing our truth blocks and limits our energy. If we feel that we have no right to speak out or that no one wants to listen to us, we dampen our life force and negate the precious gift of communication. Lying, substance abuse, and gossip are three things that damage the precious fiber of the Throat Chakra. All of them take us away from our natural goodness and numb us to truth. Feeling we can say things without following through with congruent actions demeans our personal integrity. When we lie, gossip, or trash our bodies with drugs, we lose credibility and respect.
Honoring the truth and communicating it from a place of integrity is what makes us responsible adults. When we know we have something to say and it is worth expressing, we make a difference. We expand the Throat Chakra and open our energy field when we share our truth. We learn that both our personal truth and the higher truth of God are sacred. Also, learning appropriate times and ways to express our truth is worth the effort because others can then respond to us.
