The Root Chakra is related to the quantity of physical energy and the will to live in the physical reality.
It is the location of the first manifestation of the life force in the physical world. When the life force is fully functioning through this center, the person has a powerful will to live in physical reality.
A person with a clear, balanced and energized Root Chakra has a ‘presence’ of power and vitality and makes a powerful statement, “I AM here NOW”. This person is well grounded in physical reality and often acts as an energy generator; by recharging other people's energy systems as well as having a strong survival instinct and will to live.
When this energy vortex is blocked, most of the physical vitality of the life force is blocked and the person doesn’t make a strong impression in the physical world. The person is seen as ‘not always present’ or ‘spacey’, will avoid physical activity, will have low energy and may even be ‘sickly’. The person will lack physical power and strength.
The Root Chakra relates to keeping life vibrant and sustainable. It incorporates all the qualities to maintain existence in an orderly fashion, including being constant and stable. It is drawn to the simple activity of staying alive. It focuses upon shelter and sustenance, as well as the things that keep our lives moving along. It flourishes with levels of security that keep chaos and lower frequencies away and ultimately it is concerned with having patience and presence to see our dreams come true.
A function of the Root Chakra is building a structure that supports and sustains our life.
Security is also an aspect of this chakra that helps to keep us focused and grounded.
When we don't feel secure we lose energy and fear for our existence.
The Root Chakra carries all the qualities of survival from our ancestors. Just as the roots of diseases are transmitted down family lines, so are the spiritual qualities which we can draw on when facing difficult circumstances.
The Root Chakra controls the fight or flight reaction that triggers the adrenal cortex. This function stimulates the flow of adrenaline into the blood when we are under attack, putting us into survival mode.
The Root Chakra anchors itself to the earth when we are patient, resourceful, and hopeful about our lives. Remaining positive and open to possibilities strengthens the Root Chakra and allows for stability and inner strength.
We can develop a healthy Root Chakra when we affirm our right to a good life. This comes when we honor who we are, beyond any limiting identifications that define us by race, age, religion, or nationality.
